COMMUNITY BUILDINGS > Heritage Centre, Port Sunlight
Adding use & value
Following a successful bid for Heritage lottery funding the new centre was opened by the Port Sunlight Village Trust in Autumn 2006.
The building had stood empty for some years, but it was recognised that with its proximity to the Lady Lever Art Gallery and prominent central position, it provided an excellent opportunity for the expansion of the Trust’s facilities.
The building was remodelled internally to create a Tourist Information Centre, gift shop, interactive exhibition space, and education suite in addition to new offices and meeting spaces for the Trust.
Additional space was created by the insertion of a modern mezzanine level within the main hall. The new insertion respected the dominant 2 storey Oriel windows and included a new lightwell formed with contemporary glazed screens and panels.
