COMMUNITY BUILDINGS > The SWOSS Scheme, Salford
A national pilot
We were selected by competition as architects for this national pilot scheme for supported accommodation. The final commission came from Great Places/Imagine and provided for a series of individual units of accommodation, plus ancillary facilities for 6 staff.
Occupying a brown field site within Salford’s regeneration area, the scheme was designed to enclose a private courtyard whilst utilising the site’s natural topography to maximise internal light penetration. The external elevations respond to the rhythm of the surrounding streets whilst the internal facades take a distinctive contemporary form.
Access is arranged via semi-enclosed interlocking walkways with break out spaces in the form of cantilevered contemporary pods.
