Renaissance in action
Our HMRI Masterplan for Burnley recommended selective clearance to form wide boulevards and parks, creating the opportunity for innovative housing design.
The principal intervention was the forming of new ends to the existing 18th century terraces. The design complements the existing terraces, whilst providing a wholly contemporary backdrop to the new green boulevards.
The terraces fronting the parks were extended vertically to form 3 bed town houses to provide the required mass and scale to enclose and define the parks.
A new build housing solution was also created, utilising MMC whilst maintaining a reference to the historical mill town aesthetic through the selective use of stone, timber and slate. In all, the project allowed for positive reflections of past tradition, within a wholly innovative and contemporary expression.
