URBAN REGENERATION > Masterplan for Burnley, East Lancashire
Innovative remodelling as a keynote
The core study area formed roughly a triangular block of some 20 hectares immediately south east of Burnley Town Centre.
The objective was to strengthen and enhance the local community by the provision of a regenerated infrastructure with selective interventions to provide a vibrant mix modelled on successful urban patterns.
The grid iron centre of the existing terraces was strategically re-modelled and ‘green boulevards’ created by selective clearance with new-build residential solutions integrated into the resulting street patterns.
The new proposals provided for design innovation utilising a pallet of traditional materials, whilst achieving variety through the use of urban squares and variations in density.
